Title: Cancer screening in dogs: Promise, pitfalls, and practical realities

Synopsis: Cancer screening tests are tools used to look for evidence of cancer before symptoms develop. Early detection of cancer is correlated with improved outcomes for many cancers in people, and this is true for some cancers that occur in animals as well. This talk will provide an overview of cancer screening principles and review the goals, benefits, and harms of cancer screening. Currently available cancer screening test in veterinary medicine and the data that support their use will be reviewed as well.
