Remembering Artemis

This is in honor and remembrance of Artemis, who passed away due to lymphoma on 27 December 2020. Artemis was an amazing boy. He became my best friend when I adopted him in 2015. He was the sweetest soul, and my house is much emptier without him. My other cat slept next to him and tried to comfort him when he wasn’t feeling well. I can see that she also feels this loss. Adopting Artemis helped me get over losing my dog Kaiser to cancer. Artemis would meet me at the door when I came home, and slept on my bed at night. He was very vocal and expressive while communicating his feelings in his unique language. He loved to be petted, especially getting scratched under the chin, and he liked being brushed. Artemis came from the Kitsap Humane Society, but he wasn’t getting adopted because he was diabetic. They wrote, “Artemis came to us as a stray four days before Christmas. Once here, it was discovered that he had diabetes. With the help of Diabetic Cats in Need we were able to get him regulated on the appropriate insulin. He is the most sweet and affectionate boy and deserves a loving home who can give him the care that he needs.” He was in the shelter for four months waiting for a home, and it makes me wonder about his life before he came to me. His diabetes was never much of a problem, though. I think this made him a good patient while going through treatments for lymphoma. Artemis was under care of the Summit Vet Referral Center, which gave us additional time together that I’ll always cherish, but I wish we could have had more time.
