REMEMBERING Nika
Loved by Mairin Cannon and Andy Rumgay
Nika was rescued from The Little Red Dog rescue in Southern California. She had not had the best life, but when my husband Andy and I found her, we knew we couldn’t live without her. She just completed our family. She was a 5-year-old American Staffordshire terrier. When she was 8.5 years old, she stopped eating and we figured out that she had lymphoma with spleen involvement. She started chemo and then the lymphoma attacked her liver. Over the next 24 hours she got so sick that we had to make the difficult decision to let her go. She was gone 3 weeks after her diagnosis. We only got her for 3.5 years but those were the best years of our lives, and Nika’s as well. She was the love of our lives. We had a wonderful oncology team at Summit Veterinary Referral Center in Tacoma, WA. They helped us navigate the treatment options and supported us and Nika the whole way. I hope the donation made on her behalf can help future Veterinary oncologists help dogs like Nika and families like ours.
Veterinary oncology has a huge impact on families.
Take care,
Mairin Cannon and Andy Rumgay
