VCS was formed in 1976 by a small group of veterinarians
who wanted to establish a professional organization dedicated to veterinary oncology. VCS is a non-profit educational organization incorporated in the State of Illinois. Nearly 1,000 members include specialists in medical, surgical, and radiation oncology, internists, pathologists, pharmacologists and general practitioners worldwide.

Integrity in Practice: VCS helps its members set and maintain the highest standards of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer in animals. Communication: VCS promotes communication among those engaged and interested in both naturally-occuring and experimental neoplastic diseases.
Education and Training: VCS provides a means to collect, elucidate and disseminate relevant data on neoplastic diseases for vet students and practicioners, scientists and the public. Research Support: VCS helps design, implement and evaluate studies of neoplastic diseases through ongoing education, meetings, and an annual conference.
